Monday 6th February. “Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight, red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning” (the version I learnt as a child)… It was certainly true, as these beautiful skies pre-empted the onset of Tempête Marcel, that has been battering the region since Sunday. Winds are now easing, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Below us, in the Tins ravine, a large tree is down, its thick trunk snapped like a matchstick, a chicken coop overturned and tables and chairs scattered wildly… (winds reached 120km here, 160km was recorded at Cap Béar)
