Panier of Plenty

August 2015

Welcome to the visual diary for August…

Back from the Saturday market

Already there is a change in the air. Although it is peak holiday season, the first leaves have stared to fall and local produce is looking more autumnal…

Nothing could be more magical than squishing pizza dough, and eating it raw…

Thursday 6th August. Temperatures were in the mid-thirties again so we walked to seek shade, descending to the Tins river that runs below, and then climbing up a steep track through trees (and a blackberry patch) to the opposite bank of the ravine. Our terrace is above the right end of the second roof of the two lower buildings that emerge from gardens in the photo, with a beige parasol… not easy to find!

I have never tried magret on the bbq – had to watch for dripping fat – it worked perfectly though, staying moist and taking on a ‘lightly-smoked’ flavour (cooked on high with the lid down).

I have the pleasure of another garden this month: picking flowers, raspberries and now plump green figs…

I buy free-range farm eggs from the market each week and ‘oeufs à la coque’ (with slices of fresh baguette) are now Célestine’s favourite dinner…
