From the ashes comes new life, bursting through. Five months
after fires ravaged the neighbouring mountains and plains of
Empordà, there are signs of promise – hope in the form of little
oaks and flourishes of green leaves that sprout from the chêne
liège (cork trees) that resisted the intense heat.
And whilst the landscape is renewed and the terrain revealed,
the past also comes alive as dolmens and menhirs are discovered
– remnants of the Neolithic age that have fallen from consciousness
and now re-emerge, blackened.
Yet as with all that lies in nature, soon the elements will work
their magic and the stones will gleam white again – for life and
death are ever linked in the cycles that govern all things, as
beauty comes to the fore, born from an incendie.
