Panier of Plenty

All in a day…

…in the Pyrénées Orientales. Snow halts the traffic in Cerdagne,
as the fruit trees are being pruned on the plains of Roussillon.

Pruning, Néfiach

The météo (weather forecast) used ‘yo yo’ to describe the current extremes
we continue to witness. Today as we traversed the mountains of Cerdagne
in heavy snow we stopped to fit chains, later emerging into an entirely
different world, as rows of fruit trees in full bloom line the route at a
lower altitude. (The distance is approximately 50 kilometres, descending
from 1600 metres of altitude to around 100 metres above sea level. The
snowfall at Mont-Louis was around 50-60cm – triggering avalanche warnings).
