Never before have I seen life and death
Than in the forest, at this time.
Hand in hand they are
As equal partners in Life’s dance.
Skeleton trees have abandoned their leaves –
Bones litter the ground,
Yet everywhere, new life abounds.
When I look at the view, I can think it is sad
That so much is gnarled and twisted,
Yet when violets appear underfoot,
My spirits are instantly lifted –
Which path shall I take
When I know there’s a choice –
The way of the giants that loom ahead,
Or the one paved with buttercups instead?
By noticing the ‘little things’, new can enter,
As endings slip away, soon buried
The broken branches are disguised,
When the balance shifts, and allows Spring to shine.
