Randonnées (hikes)

After ‘record high’ temperatures for January we had snow yesterday
and everything was magically transformed – images are now appearing
under the heading ‘Month by Month’ January.

‘Randonnées’ is a new section on some of the spectacular hikes in
this region, the Pyrénées-Orientales, and just across the border
in Spain or ‘Catalunya’. Taking advantage of the sunny warm days
(before the surprise snowfall arrived), this week was filled with more
excursions than usual: on Saturday 21st we climbed ‘Col de la Font’
and ‘Pic San Cristau’ in the ‘Albères’, the chain of mountains that
joins the Mediterranean coast; on Sunday 22nd I joined a Catalan
group for a 20km hike, visiting ‘dolmens’ and an olive oil festival
across the frontière in Espolla; and on Wednesday 25th climbed a peak
in the Pyrénées of Cerdagne, with snowshoes.

I am now very busy writing and adding photos…
